Well Contractors in Beatty, NV

We connect Beatty homeowners, ranches and businesses with independent local well contractors for drilling, pumps and water testing.

About the area

A Gold Rush Railroad Town

Beatty was laid out in 1904 and 1905 and named for Montillus Murray Beatty, a Civil War veteran and miner who ran a ranch in Oasis Valley from 1896 and became the town's first postmaster in 1905. The Bullfrog gold rush began in 1904 in the hills to the west, and Beatty became the railway center for the Bullfrog Mining District.

The ghost town of Rhyolite sits about 4 miles west, and the Goldwell Open Air Museum and Beatty Museum draw visitors year-round. The Bullfrog open-pit mine, later owned by Barrick Gold, operated nearby from 1988 to 1998.

The town's population was 880 in 2020, down from a peak of 1,623 in 1990.

Mining and railroads drew people here because of the water in Oasis Valley, and that same water still makes ranching and rural homes possible north of town.

Water supply

Town Water vs. Private Wells

The Beatty Water and Sanitation District supplies drinking water from three wells and treats the community's wastewater. Homes inside the district's lines are generally on that system.

Outside those lines, including ranch properties in Oasis Valley and scattered homes around town, private wells are the rule. If you're planning a well near the district, NDWR may want to know your distance from water lines.

Beatty is outside the Pahrump basin, so the Order 1293A requirement for new domestic wells doesn't apply. Statewide rules generally allow up to 2 acre-feet a year for a single-family domestic well. The driller still files a Notice of Intent with NDWR and has to hold a Nevada license, which you should confirm yourself.

Local setting

The Amargosa River and Oasis Valley

The Amargosa River is mostly a dry wash, flowing on the surface only after rare storms, but it does surface through parts of the Beatty area. North of town, Oasis Valley and Bailey's Hot Springs, about 5 miles away, point to groundwater that comes close to the surface in places.

That geology means well conditions can vary a lot from one parcel to the next. Hot springs areas can carry dissolved minerals, so a water test is worth doing on any new or newly purchased well.

Yucca Mountain and the Nevada Test Site lie about 18 miles east, part of the larger Death Valley regional groundwater system that hydrologists have studied for decades.

If you're buying a property with an existing well, ask the seller for any records of depth, pump replacements and past test results.

Common jobs

What Beatty Well Owners Call About

Pump and pressure problems are the usual reason for a call, and summer demand tends to expose weak parts. See pump installation and repair for what a service call usually covers.

New homes outside the district need new wells. Older ranch wells sometimes need deepening or rehab after years of mineral buildup.

Beatty is a long drive from most contractor yards, so ask about travel charges and try to group work, such as a pump swap and a water test, into one visit. Have your well depth, pump age and a description of the symptoms ready, so the contractor can plan the trip properly and bring the parts most likely to be needed.

Before Calling a Contractor in Beatty

Having a few details ready speeds things up.

  • Whether you're inside or outside the water district's service area.
  • Your well's depth and age, if known.
  • What you're seeing: no water, low pressure, sediment or odor.
  • Any past pump or tank replacements.
  • A plan to confirm the contractor's license and insurance yourself.

Testing

Water Quality Around Beatty

Rural Nevada wells often carry naturally occurring minerals, and a 2022 Desert Research Institute study of 174 private wells statewide found 22% above the EPA's arsenic limit, along with uranium, iron and manganese in some samples. Beatty's mining history and nearby hot springs are good reasons to test any private well here.

A test through a state-certified lab is usually the first step before choosing a treatment system. Retest after treatment to make sure it's working, and after any pump work opens the well.

Quick answer

Do I Need a Well If I Live in Beatty?

Not if your home is served by the Beatty Water and Sanitation District, which supplies water from three wells. Properties outside the district's lines, including many ranches and homes in Oasis Valley, rely on private wells. If you're building outside the district, a Nevada-licensed driller can drill a domestic well under statewide rules after filing a Notice of Intent with NDWR.

Beatty FAQ

Do contractors travel to Beatty?

Yes. We connect Beatty residents with contractors who serve the area, though travel charges are common for remote work.

Is Beatty part of the Pahrump water basin?

No. Beatty is outside the Pahrump basin, so the Pahrump-specific domestic well order doesn't apply.

Does hot spring water affect wells?

It can mean higher minerals in some areas. A water test tells you what's in yours.

Can I connect to the water district instead of drilling?

That depends on your location. Contact the Beatty Water and Sanitation District about service availability.
